In March 2008 Croydon Council surprised us by simply informing us that Canning and Clyde Roads had been included, along with others, in a newly formed conservation area they had named The East India Estate Conservation Area.
The Council has drawn up a Management Plan choosing to follow broad national guidelines.
Please be aware - if you want to cut back trees, put up a fence, install new windows, put up a shed, install a satellite dish or solar panels, reroof the building, build an extension or anything resembling an extension or alter the external appearance of your house, flat or garden in any way - you would be well advised to click on the links below to view Croydon Council's General Guidance and Management Plan.
Good news - in July 2014 Croydon Council relented slightly and gave permission for some of our residents to install UPvC windows at the back and side of their property but still required them to use expensive wood window frames at the front - Planning Application Ref: 14/01917/P can be viewed on the Online Planning Register on the Council’s website. This can be cited as a precedent for those wishing to install UPvC windows at the side and back.
